We have grown increasing wary of the local dog parks. The county does a great job of design, implementation and maintenance of these areas but HWD still seems to pick up the odd infection that necessitates a vet visit about every third or fourth visit to these parks.

With that in mind, and hating to deprive him of that which he dearly loves, water, we took a day trip to the New Braunfels/Gruene area last week (late July, 2015). It was especially nice as the day was 100 degrees plus.

As soon as we stopped and let him out, he bolted for the river! He and Janna spent the next few hours greeting the tubers (toobers?) floating past. They all wanted to know his name and to pet him. Were it not for his leash, he would have been right in the middle of every group passing by. He is such a social butterfly! Because he frequently swims with his face under water as if looking for something, a friend of ours thinks he is part seal!

The day was a success for all. We all needed a break from our routine.
