April is the time for Harold’s annual exam and 2018 was no exception. His labs came back with elevated liver enzymes and it was deemed necessary to perform an ultrasound. That procedure detected nodules on his spleen and liver and we were referred to a specialist, Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists.
After consulting with Dr. Cole of GCVS, who recommended removing Harold’s spleen and a few of the liver nodules, surgery was scheduled for the next day with biopsies on everything. Dogs can live without their spleen and Dr. Cole wasn’t alarmed about the liver nodules, saying that they were not uncommon in large, older dogs. It’s difficult to think of Harold as ‘old’ but his 8th birthday is April, 21, 2018.
